This week, we were reminded that celebrities are humans just like us. With some discussing their everyday struggles to getting deserved recognition to the ultimate transition, we were constantly shown the other side of these stars.
Here is a rundown of the week:
Savage is on a low?
Music star, Tiwa Savage has left many of her fans shocked when she revealed that she sometimes feels depressed by low self-esteem.“I’m not perfect, and not the prettiest, sexiest, richest but I’ll remain kind and seek after God’s heart because none of the others matters to Him…Some of us grew up looking at the world’s definition of beauty and found ourselves not fitting into that standard but with the help of makeup, filters and push up bras we feel a little closer…Ultimately God’s approval is all we need.”
Lights out
The Nigerian scene was hit with the sad demise of On Air Personality, Tosyn Bucknor who reportedly died of sickle cell complications. It was gathered that the late Bucknor’s husband, Aurelien Boyer, found her unresponsive in her room last night when he got back home from work and she was confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital. Prior to her death, the law graduate was an actress, singer and was a staff of Inspiration FM where she hosted her own morning talk show. She recently celebrated her 1st year wedding anniversary to her husband.
Bad girl Riri
There is no gainsaying that whatever Riri lays her hands on turns to gold. Forbes released the 2018 Highest Paid Women In Music which has Katy Perry topping the list with N30,129,000,000 ($83 million). While others such as Taylor Swift and Beyonce come in second and third respectively, Rihanna who comes seventh, the list reports is the only one whose earnings come from Fenty Beauty and Savage Lingerie. The list also has Celine Dion, Pink, Lady Gaga among others.
White Chyna
Blac Chyna is partnering with Whitenicious by Dencia to roll out a beauty product called "Whitenicious X Blac Chyna Diamond Illuminating and Lightening Cream" which goes for N90,750 (250 dollars) per jar. According to TMZ, Blac Chyna has been using Whitenicious dark spot corrector for a few years to deal with her hyperpigmentation. However, skin lightening products have come under fire from critics who think they feed into a European beauty standard of been fair. Nigeria is currently ranked as the second highest users of skin bleaching products with 99.5 million users.
Muoka for the win
Guardian Life’s editor, Chidera Muoka has been listed in the 2018 edition of the #YNaijaPowerList for Media – “a roll call of the most powerful Nigerian influencers under the age of 40.” The list recognises policymakers, decision-makers, change agents, and influencers breaking boundaries in Nigeria. Muoka took over Guardian Life about three years ago. Since then, the magazine has become the go-to magazine for entertainment lovers. Often described as a breath of fresh air, Guardian Life, the weekly magazine insert of the prestigious Guardian Nigeria Newspaper, continues to lead as that which touches on crucial issues in the society.
