Tom Cruise who is known for performing gruelling stunts in the Mission Impossible franchise is set to be replaced for being physically for the role in Jack Reacher remake. Lee Child, the creator of the film revealed that the character was originally written to be taller than the actor's height.
In his book, Jack Reacher is 6ft 5in tall with hands the size of dinner plates which makes Tom Cruise too short for the role with inches difference in height at 5ft 7in.
According to the author, a deal has been signed to make a new show. Readers had reportedly protested that Cruise was not suitable for the role because of the difference in height.
In an interview with Station, Child said, "I really enjoyed working with Cruise. He's a really, really nice guy. We had a lot of fun."
"But ultimately the readers are right. The size of Reacher is really, really important and it's a big component of who he is," he added.
"The idea is that when Reacher walks into a room, you're all a little nervous just for that first minute. And Cruise, for all his talent, didn't have that physicality.
"So what I've decided to do is - there won't be any more movies with Tom Cruise. Instead, we're going to take it to Netflix or something like that. Long form streaming television, with a completely new actor.
"And I want all those readers who were upset about Tom Cruise to help me out - participate in choosing the right actor for the TV series. We're rebooting and starting over and we're going to try and find the perfect guy."
The first Jack Reacher film was released in 2012, got good reviews and made $218m (N79.46 billion) at box offices all over the world.
The decision to switch to the small screen was due to the mixed reviews that the Jack Reacher: Never Go Back got which made the sum of $162 million ( N59.04 billion) on box office.
