Melanie'Mel B' has disclosed in her tell-all autobiography that the death of her father "gave her the strength" to end her abusive marriage to US film producer Stephen Belafonte.
A snippet from the book reveals that she ran to her father who she had been estranged from for three years following a row.
"I told him I was leaving Stephen and I felt his hand tighten slightly in mine," she wrote.
According to a publication in Sun Newspaper, quote Message: "I leaned over him. 'Dad. You’ve had your hair cut and a shave. You’ve got a fresh shirt on. We have prayed. We are ready. You are ready. But I can’t start my divorce until you die.'
I leaned over him. 'Dad. You’ve had your haircut and a shave. You’ve got a fresh shirt on. We have prayed. We are ready. You are ready. But I can’t start my divorce until you die."
"His eyes opened for a second, we looked at each other, and there was a moment in which I felt every ounce of pain that had ever passed between us disappear. Then he took one last, very slow breath: 'He’s gone,' I announced to the room."
According to her book, she returned to Los Angeles after her father died from cancer in 2017 and filed a restraining order against her husband Belafonte.
The divorce was finalised in December 2017.
The book, which will be released soon narrates how she lost a fortune, struggled with drugs and survived an attempt to end her life.
