Just In: Emery refuses new deal for Ramsey at Arsenal -Newslanded

Ramsey is due to leave the Emirates at the end of the season with his contract due to expire. And after a 10-year spell with the north London club, the 27-year-old looks set to be a free agent come next May.

Revealing how he thought the discussions happened, former Republic of Ireland international Cascarino believes Emery intervened at the last minute to scrap the contract.

“That would tell me that the manager has had to have stepped in on negotiations,” Cascarino told talkSPORT.“The obvious conversation is the club say to him ‘where is your standing on Aaron Ramsey?’.“‘He’s not going to play, he’s not going to be in my first team, I’ll use him as a sub’.

“They’ll then have to rethink and say ‘well if he’s just going to be a sub and coming off the bench and being in and out the team, we can’t offer him that amount of money’.”

Ramsey is able to open talks with foreign sides on a pre-contract as soon as the new year. And his wealth of Premier League experience has clearly appealed to several European heavyweights, including the likes of Juventus.

Cascarino, who spent six years in France towards the end of his career, believes a move abroad could appeal to Ramsey as he would be guaranteed a big payday in the near future.“It’s not a bad choice to have, Juve. It’s a fantastic football club,” he continued.

“He’s going to get a lot of money previously because when you go abroad, you get a signing-on fee and get it all up front.“It’s not done the same way as in England, where you’d get it over the period of your contract. So that’s the big attraction of going abroad.“Now Juve may look at it and think ‘well if it doesn’t work out, we can easily get £10m-£15m back for him’.”
