Just In: Akinsanya, Babalakin win, as Southern Sun Ikoyi golf tourney ends in grandeur -Newslanded

It was a spectacle at the lush grounds of the Lakowe lakes and Golf Resorts Lagos, as the 2018 annual Southern Sun Ikoyi tournament came to a conclusion, with Akindele Akinsanya winning the men’s category in the competition, while Idowu Babalakin came tops in the ladies category.

The 18-hole tourney, which employed foursome format of play with the best three scores per hole counting, was the seventh edition of the annual tournament and was graced by business associates, friends of the hotel, sponsors, golfers and invited guests who networked with pleasure as they enjoyed the tournament with a gamut of other activities.

Speaking at the prize giving ceremony, the General Manager, Southern Sun Ikoyi, Mark Loxley commended athletes for their tenacity and drive in participating at the keenly contested event despite the hot weather conditions.

He also used the medium to appreciate the support from guests, new and returning sponsors and the media whilst reiterating the hotel’s continued commitment to promoting golf as a sporting activity within Lagos’s thriving business community.

“This event is in line with our annual Corporate Social Responsibility philosophy of giving back generously to the society that has supported our business and helped us grow throughout the course of the year and it is worth of note that proceeds from the tournament would be given to the Arrows of God orphanage, which has been the Hotel’s adopted charity since it came into the country.” he concluded.

Amidst a taste of Southern Sun Ikoyi’s sumptuous cuisine and fine wine, the excitement continued at the prize-giving ceremony as participants and guests were rewarded with special treats which included Cable TVs from Kwese TV, business and economy class tickets to various international travel destinations courtesy of the various tournament’s corporate sponsors.
