Ebewele was in Lagos for the recent investiture ceremony of the Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC) and was on his way back to Benin City when his car was involved in an accident around Ore in Ondo State.
The source told The Guardian yesterday that Ebewele was already back on his feet, adding that the former AFN Technical Director never sustained a spinal cord injury as earlier reported.
“I was with Ebewele a few minutes ago, and he complained that people had been calling him over a report that he sustained a spinal cord injury. That was not correct. Ebewele is now undergoing physiotherapist exercise. We walked together for some minutes before I left his place. That report must have sent some wrong signals about him,” the source said.
The Edo State-born Ebewele was the AFN Technical Director in his first stint in the federation under Tony Urhobo, who was president between 1997 and 1998.
However, the AFN has been enmeshed in crisis since the election that brought Ebewele and former national triple jump queen, Rosa Collins to the AFN in 2017.
Part of the issues is Ebewele’s attempt to reclaim his former position of Technical Director, a move that has been blocked by the AFN boss, Shehu Gusau.
