Mrs Nigeria Organisers Explain Why They Chose To Organise The Pageant

When it comes to beauty queens, what comes to mind is single and young women but a new beauty pageant tagged, Mrs. Nigeria is affording the married women to feel like queens as well.

The organisers have stated their reason for creating such contest, which was initially strictly organised for beautiful single ladies.

The Managing Director of Pageants Nigeria Limited, Mrs. Sarah Anogwi, explained that the pageant was necessary to identify, reward and empower women. She said:

“The pageant intends to create awareness on domestic violence, gender inequality, societal oppression and all forms of social injustices against women. It will also provide funding and other structural support systems for humanitarian projects and programmes that can empower women, teenage mothers and children.”

According to her, Mrs. Nigeria is a non-bikini beauty queen contest for married women between the ages of 23-45years.

“The competition is about physical beauty, marital stability/success, career progression, intellectual agility, social awareness, and humanitarian compassion. The second edition will be held on October 21 at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. The winner will represent Nigeria on the global stage at Mrs. Universe holding in the Philippines in December.”

Anogwi, who was also once an international model, said the event would start with a two-day camp for contestants. She added:

The winner will go home with a brand new SUV, a cash prize of N1 million and a plot of land situated at Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos. The first and second runner-ups will also get cash prizes of N500, 000 and N300, 000 respectively as well as other prizes.”

A mother of two, Mrs Faith Ogaga, won the first edition last year and participated at the Mrs Universe 2017 pageant held in South Africa. Although she didn’t win the grand prize, Ogaga was awarded Mrs. Sympathy.
