Uzodimma denies claims of arrest for dud cheque

Representative of Imo West senatorial district in the Senate, Hope Uzodimma has dismissed claims that an Abuja Area court issued a bench warrant on him.He said his political rivals masterminded the plot, as his (Uzodimma’s) governorship prospects kept rising in the state.

A statement issued by Chidi Uzodimma, Senior Legislative Assistant (SLA) to the senator, said some political detractors attempted to use a company that defaulted in the execution of a contract from Nigeria Global to twist facts and abuse the judicial process just to dent his soaring political image.

The statement questions how a disagreement between two corporate citizens, which has been a subject of litigation and is still pending at the Supreme Court, got to the area court.

“The facts are clear. Chitek Engineering Limited was given a sub-contract to supply 1,700 sheet piles at Koko on or before March 2018. A bank cheque for N200 million was issued to UBA to transfer the value to Chitek upon successful execution of the contract.

“But Chitek failed to execute the contract and still proceeded to attempt to cash the cheque, which was not issued in its name in the first place. When the cheque was returned, the company went to court to enforce payment. “They lost at the High Court and Appeal Court and the matter is now at the Supreme Court,” the statement reads.
