IPAC adopts Buni as Yobe governorship candidate

Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Yobe State has adopted Mai-Mala Buni of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as consensus governorship candidate.

The chairman, Alhaji Umar Kukuri, announced the adoption yesterday in Damaturu, while fielding questions from journalists.Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of APC had reportedly anointed Buni as his successor earlier. Kukuri said the council’s decision to adopt Buni was based on the need to promote good governance and continuity in service delivery.

His words: “So far, there are no governorship aspirants in other political parties, except APC. We have carefully sieved aspirants from the party to arrive at the support and adoption of Buni for the governorship election in the state.

“Although we do not belong to the ruling APC, it is about our collective fate and future as citizens of Yobe, which is our primary interest above any other.“We have carefully gauged all the aspirants and arrived at Buni, for continuity in the achievements recorded in the health, education, roads network and agriculture sectors among others.”

The chairman also noted that the council was inspired by the collective decision of APC stakeholders to nominate Buni as the preferred aspirant.He said that even President Muhammadu Buhari also supported the aspiration of the APC national secretary, based on his impeccable character of transparency, accountability and commitment to service.

According to him, Buni has earned the confidence of President Buhari, which speaks volumes of the trust and competence in him.Commending the party for the peaceful conduct of its affairs during the recent congresses and stakeholders’ meeting to endorse Buni, he urged the party and its supporters to sustain the peaceful electioneering during and after the primary elections.

Governor Gaidam has, however, declared the contest open to other aspirants who oppose the endorsement.He assured that IPAC would always promote good governance. “As politicians with the interest of our people, we will ensure transparency and accountability.”
