African Cycling Foundation (AFC) has concluded arrangements to host the third edition of Schools Cycling Challenge (SCC) between September 20 and 21 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The competition provides an exciting platform for young people to display their riding skills by competing against their peers on high quality aluminum bicycles within a safe environment.

The first two editions of the SCC were held last year in Ogun and Lagos states.

Both events featured a combined total of 132 competitors, and 582 attendees.

The 3rd edition of the SCC is a 2-day event for both male and female students from secondary schools in three educational districts of Lagos state.

180 competitors are expected at the Teslim Balogun stadium.

The president of the African Cycling Foundation, Yemi Osilaja, explained that the primary goal of the SCC is to promote greater interest in regular cycling, to encourage schools to establish cycling clubs and include cycling in their sports curriculum.

“We also aim to use the SCC as a platform to educate the youth about the many health and environmental benefits of the sport.

We plan to hold the program in all six geo-political zones of Nigeria.

As the SCC grows in popularity across the country, we expect to discover and groom young talents that will represent Nigeria at the world cycling circuit one day.”

The 2018 SCC has the Lagos State Sports Council as technical partners, and is supported by the Cycling Foundation of Nigeria (CFN).
